LEICESTER TIGERS RUGBY CAMPS
At the Spring 2019 Leicester Tigers camp we offered a full Rugby coaching program focussing on player development, as well as including communication and 5 Physical Test activities, all conducted in English.
Just as we need to learn the ABCs of English to communicate, we also need to learn the Physical ABCs - A(agility), B(balance), & C(co-ordination) when playing rugby. These activities enable children to develop the fundamental skills of rugby movement, such as starting position, body shape, timing, reaction, decision making and problem solving whilst using their Rugby skills and knowledge at our camps.
Just as we need to learn the ABCs of English to communicate, we also need to learn the Physical ABCs - A(agility), B(balance), & C(co-ordination) - to maintain a physically active life.
We call these skills the FUNdamentals of movement, and the Future Players English and Soccer program integrates these FUNdamentals in a FUN environment, using English immersion with Japanese language support to build social English skills in all children. By learning English in this physical environment using soccer, children can develop their English ability and communication skills as well as the physical ABCs and develop soccer skills at the same time! Our curriculum is built around two of England’s main soccer and English Language education programs
Playing for Success (PfS) is a former British government education initiative which offered education provision located at Football clubs and other sporting centres. The aims of PfS were to build the confidence and motivation of all students by offering them learning opportunities which enabled them to improve their achievement in a sporting environment. There were more than 160 Playing for Success centres in England at professional sports clubs (including all Premier League Soccer clubs, all 92 soccer teams, all professional Rugby teams as well as 18 sports in total) with over 500,000 students having attended lessons at Playing for Success globally with PfS centres in the UK, Holland, Belgium and Japan. Soccercise is an instructor led aerobic exercise or circuit class, typically lasting 45 – 60 mins in length. It can be delivered indoors or outdoors and combines a variety of fitness exercises with a football. The class should be delivered to music and is based on repetitions of specific exercises (i.e. toe taps, squats, sit-ups). Participants can create their own workout to do at home or take part in exercises as part of a class.
The inclusion of footballs in this class adds co-ordination and core stability to familiar exercises. It also builds familiarity and confidence of working with a football. Exercises contain progressions and simplifiers to allow participation for a mix of abilities and fitness levels.

FC GIFU ACADEMY PfS PROGRAM
In 2011 Pfs was launched at FC Gifu with academy players U14 and with local children who supported the club.
Children used textbooks and learning resources focussing on the club's players to motivate them to study English. Students who attended the PFS class were found to have achieved significantly higher than other local children on local EIKEN tests (tests of English in Japan) which emphasised that connecting learning to children's motivations and passions leads to increased academic performance.
